Letter from the President
November 2007
At this time may I express my sincere gratitude to you, Colorado's SRO's and C.A.S.R.O. members who elected me to the position of President for my second term. I am excited to know and work with all of you, and am proud to be a part of such an incredible association. I will strive to fulfill my obligations to C.A.S.R.O. in an honorable way and to exceed your expectations at every moment, all the while helping C.A.S.R.O. continue to succeed as a progressive, member-dedicated, professional association.
With that, you will all be pleased to know our 501C3 application is complete, and C.A.S.R.O. is officially a tax-exempt, non-profit Association! Now that our 501C3 status is official, the sky is the limit! We are able to apply for grant monies to assist with (but not limited to) conference scholarships and increased SRO trainings, and we will save thousands each year on conference expenses in taxes alone! As well, this could be an opportunity for C.A.S.R.O. to assist with SRO basic trainings within the State of Colorado - lets train our own Officers! It is my ultimate vision and hope in the near future that with this status, C.A.S.R.O. will be able to provide quarterly seminars and trainings to all C.A.S.R.O. members within the great State of Colorado and to our neighboring States as well.
When it comes to our members, it is noteworthy to mention our non-SRO membership. In the past several years, non-SRO C.A.SR.O. membership (school administrators / educational personnel, school security etc) has increased. As the participation, knowledge and expertise of non-SRO's will only add to the effectiveness of C.A.S.R.O. and the membership as a whole.
At this time I would like to invite all SRO's, School Educators and School Security personnel to attend the 2008 Safe School's Conference to be held at the Marriott in the beautiful Ft. Collins, Colorado, July 7-11, 2008! (Please see the 2008 Conference section on the C.A.S.R.O. website for more information). Your conference committee and your Executive Board are working tirelessly to develop an incredible conference with new, relevant and exciting topics and presenters and we value your input! Please complete a Conference Presenter/Topic Referral Form with your suggestions for the 2008 conference.
As it is the vision of our members that has brought us to where we are today, our continued success depends upon the participation and actions of every one of us. Always remember the specialized nature of our responsibilities means we are a vital member of our school communities. We must strive on a daily basis towards pro-active education by providing our communities with law related education, relevant trainings, positive role models and consistent enforcement. We must be dedicated to providing a safe learning environment for the students and staff within our communities (schools), and must lead by example by living under the principals of good citizenship and community responsibility in front of our greatest assets our children.
"When all is said and done and it's the end of the day, it really is all about our children."C.A.S.R.O. President Deputy Rebecca Johnson
