Description:
This course is designed as a 24-hr "OPERATOR LEVEL COURSE" to assist officers assigned as School Resource Officers/School Liasion Officers, College Campus Patrol Officers OR patrol officers from smaller agencies that could be faced with initial response duties to an "Active Shooter" incident in highly populated buildings such as: Schools, businesses, day-care centers; etc. Although multiple officer response is ideal for this type of critical incident, the nature and time sensitivity of this worse case scenario may require a SINGLE officer or PAIR of officers to effectively and quickly respond in order to reduce loss of life. Acquiring the training and skills necessary for a SINGLE officer or PAIR of officers to rapidly and effectively respond to locate, isolate and/or neutralize an active shooter threat cannot be overemphasized.
A review of the most publicized and recent active shooter tragedies will be conducted. The importance of preparing for this type of dynamic, quickly changing, worse case scenario in a realistic training environment cannot be overemphasized. Because of this reality, this course includes extensive "Force on Force" drilling, as well as field-training exercises with actors and projectile training weapons designed to simulate a "real-world" scenario. This repeated immersion increases the proficiency level of the participant so that he or she can more effectively understand and deploy these proven concepts and protocols during the "real thing".
This course is highly recommended to SRO's, school liasion officers and small agency first responder professionals that may be required to respond to a call for help during one of these types of critical incidents.
Topics Covered:
- "Active Shooter" multi-media lecture
- "Hunter vs. Victim" Mindset
